Caring for your new puppies

CONGRATULATIONS!!
ON THE ARRIVAL OF YOUR NEW PUPPY

Here are a few steps to help you and your puppy have the best start possible.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are an essential part of your puppy's health care. We recommend the following:

  • dog icon  6-9weeks – Vanguard Plus 5 (Distemper, Hepatitis Parvo, Parainfluenza) & Nobivac Intranasal (kennel cough)
  • dog icon  9-12 weeks – Vanguard Plus 5
  • dog icon  12-16 weeks – Vanguard Plus 5

Ideally we would like all vaccinations be finished by 14weeks of age. Until all the vaccinations have been given you should not take your puppy outside your property because of the possibility of coming in contact with fatal diseases.

A yearly health check and a possible vaccination is recommended to keep your puppy in good health.

Worming

You should worm your puppy every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Then at 4, 6, 9 and 12 months of age. We recommend Drontal Allwormer every 3 - 6 months for an adult dog.

Flea Treatment

We recommed flea treatment all year round not only as a treatment but as a preventative to keep your house flea free.

Revolution is a reliable flea treatment and can be started from 8 weeks of age and is applied every 4 weeks.

Nutrition

Puppies grow at a tremendous rate and it is extremely important that you feed them correctly. The first 12 months are critical especially in the larger breeds. By feeding specially formulated puppy foods your puppy will get everything he/she requires nutritionally.

It is important that you feed the right food specific to your breed of dog as they all have different nutritional requirements. As well as puppy foods we have a range of premium quality foods suitable for every stage of your dog's life.

Puppy Pre School

Socialization and basic training are both important to help prevent behavioural problems in the future, ensure that you have a good relationship with your dog, and that your dog gets on well with others.

There are a number of puppy classes available. Your puppy will need to have started its vaccination regime before attending, and the best age for a puppy to attend preschool is 9 – 11 weeks.

Desexing

We recommend desexing (Spay or Neuter) from 6 months of age. This is a good age because the pups are not yet sexually mature. Desexing can help prevent some behavioural and medical problems in the future.
